We’re easy to spot— stubborn thighs that refuse to firm, cake batter belly sliding into the body pan, water ballooned breasts slouched in exhaustion. We
sneak furtive glances, check for trouble on the periphery. We lubricate our anxiety with sunscreen and stand in the back of the photo. We hide our wild girlhood
under brimmed hats. We tell our children run, play, wait, stop, did you drink water? Here is a snack. Here is your happy childhood. But
not now, Mommy is tired. Mommy needs a break. Mommy doesn’t want to be splashed. Mommy doesn’t like it when you scream. Mommy says it is time to go home. Where is
your father?
